Homeowners
Home Energy Scotland
If you own your own home you can apply for Cash-Back loans from Home Energy Scotland.
Cash-back loans are part grant, part loan.
Grants for energy efficiency measures can be up £7,500 and 75% of the total cost of the work. You can loan an additional £7,500 on a low interest loan.
If you live in a rural location the grant is uplifted by £1,500
The grant amount you receive will depend on what you're installing.
Grants for energy systems (heat pumps, etc) are up to £7,500
See the Home Energy Scotland website for more details
You will need an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) to access these grants and a report from a Home Energy Scotland advisor. The process can take many weeks, so you should make enquiries as soon as possible.

Energy Efficiency Scotland - Area Based Schemes
Scottish Government fund local authorities to carry out insulation schemes in specific areas.
You have to live in an area that the council select (pot-luck!)
Social Housing is fully funded on schemes like this, but private homeowners have to pay a contribution. Usually this is something like contributing £1,000 for £8,000 of work, but every scheme is different.
Energy Company Obligation (ECO) Funding
Energy Companies are mandated to fund energy efficiency measures for homes across the UK. Whole house retrofit can be funded, but there are stringent qualification criteria.
To qualify you must be on benefits.
Eco-Flex can allow your local authority to refer you if a person in your household has a severe or long-term health condition that is adversely affected by living in a cold home.
See the UK Government ECO website for more details.

Great British Insulation Scheme
The Great British Insulation Scheme is a government initiative designed to help homeowners and tenants in England, Scotland, and Wales improve the energy efficiency of their homes.
The scheme aims to reduce energy bills and tackle fuel poverty by providing financial support for insulation measures
To qualify for the scheme, you must meet one of the following criteria:
- Low-income household, in receipt of certain benefits.
- Home with an EPC rating of D to G.
- Council Tax band A-E in Scotland
If you meet one of these criteria, you may be eligible for free or discounted insulation, such as loft insulation or cavity wall insulation.
